Barnes Summer Play School! A small family run business looking after the needs for children between the ages of 3 – 7 years during the long summer school holidays.
Big Top Adventures is an extension of Barnes Summer Play School and provides children between the ages of 8 - 12 years with some constructive and entertaining fun during the summer.
Located in Barnes (SW13 0LF), the school is open for 5 weeks each year, Monday to Friday from 9.30am – 3:30pm (extended hours are available with prior discussion).
The obvious theme that runs through the school is that all children have enormous fun and value their very precious time at simply being children!
All our staff have experience working with children between the ages of 3-12 years. At least half the compliment of staff will be qualified teachers presently working in a school or those with NVQ level 2 or 3 in Playwork or child care. All staff are CRB checked.
The staff arrive at school around 9:00am to set up and greet the children. Once a week there is full staff meeting lasting around one hour, and every evening after school there is a short daily debrief to make sure we didn’t overlook anything important during the school day. All staff will attend these meetings. The staff are very carefully chosen for their ability to ‘muck in’ as well as their ability to play with children, listen to them and take extra care to make them feel special and loved.
Lunchtime is a perfect opportunity for staff and children to mingle and talk on a one to one basis. All children from all age groups and staff eat together in the large hall. Staff at Barnes Summer Play School and Big Top Adventures have the right to express themselves and make suggestions as well as come up with ideas for the day ahead. All staff are fully encouraged to join in with singing, mini-aerobics, French and Spanish, as well as producing their own piece of art work which they can also take home! A good working relationship is extremely important at Barnes Summer Play School and Big Top Adventures and staff are encouraged to work as a team. All members of staff are treated equally regardless of age, qualifications and experience.
All staff at Barnes Summer Play School and Big Top Adventures will regard the children as individuals and encourage positive behaviour with praise and encouragement. Punishment is negative and unacceptable.
– Staff are happy to encourage a child to express anger and we respect their right to do so.
– Staff are Not Allowed to: shout at, devalue, isolate, ridicule and use corporal punishment on any child.
Jake & Sasha's Mum
I brought my twins to BSPS having bravely signed them up for two weeks. I fully expected you to call me after an hour to ask me to come and get them. They are only 4 years old, and hate being away from me. However, to my surprise the call never came and I am so delighted that I took my friend Kate (and other mums) advice to send them to you as they have had the most brilliant summer camp experience ever. I am usually very concerned when I leave them (which is why they are probably a bit tricky!), but I felt so confident and pleased with your wonderful staff - they really are special - that I had a lovely time myself catching up with family and friends and did not worry once that the twins may not be happy. THANK YOU Yvonne and your team for giving me the confidence to be a less clingy mum! We will be back in 2014.
Thank you for putting on such a great summer school! Your approach to lots of imaginative activities gives us a lot to talk about when she gets home. Caroline was encouraged to try things she wouldn't normally have done and it looks like it has made a deep impression on her.
Dear Yvonne, We are writing to thank you and your team for giving our two boys Chris and Michael a fantastic time this summer at Kitson Hall. The organization was excellent and we experienced no problems! The checking in and out system was a good thing. Chris and Michael spent a whole week with you this year and a friend of Chris’s from school who lives near by also came on our recommendation. He also enjoyed himself and his parents were pleased with your booking system as they could only book him in for every other day that week. Being able to spend a week at BSPS breaks up the long summer holiday for the boys gives them structure and a fresh environment and new stimulation. It also gives a us a break from each other allowing me to get the boring chores done whilst the boys are out, so when they come back we can have more fun!
Dear Yvonne, I cannot thank you enough for the very very wonderful two weeks Ella had at the summer school. I was amazed how quickly she has adapted and how much fun she had. With the recent move from Switzerland there has been a lot of change for Ella with the new flat, nursery and it took a while for her to adapt to these new things but BSPS was an exception. She loved it almost from day one. We are already looking forward to the next one and we wish you had an all year round school which Ella could attend!
